AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO ALL WILTON Y MEMBERS
FROM OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
THE WILTON FAMILY Y AND THE NORWALK YMCA SIGN HISTORIC AGREEMENT
As valuable members of our organization, I wanted to inform you that the Wilton Y has entered into a two-year Management Agreement with the Norwalk YMCA to supervise their remaining operations – which are now limited to afterschool child care and summer camp – due to the closing of their main building in December of 2012 and its sale to Norwalk Hospital. This decision has come only after serious discussions spanning several months with the Wilton Y Board of Directors, the Y USA and the Board of Directors of the Norwalk YMCA.
We are undertaking this Agreement to help a neighboring community retain YMCA services where they are so desperately needed. If the Wilton Y had not stepped forward,
the Y mission in Norwalk potentially could have disappeared.
I will be serving as the Norwalk Y Executive Director during these two years, while remaining as our Wilton Y Executive Director. I, along with my senior leadership team, will be supervising the operation of current and new Norwalk YMCA programs: Business Director Susan Betsworth will oversee their payroll and other administrative functions, Fitness Director Mary Ann Genuario will pursue opportunities to expand our successful chronic disease prevention work into that community, Senior Director for Childcare and Camp Kim Murphy will coordinate existing afterschool and day camp programs, and Development Director Karen Strickland
will assist with grant writing.
What does this mean for you as a member of the Wilton Y? The Management Services Agreement with the Norwalk Y will not have any impact on your membership or your services. Our top priority is providing our members with the highest level of services, programs and facilities right here at our main campus.
The Wilton leadership team has carefully evaluated Norwalk’s needs over recent months and we are confident that the designated staff members from Wilton who have a role in this initiative will be devoting only a defined number of hours a month which
will not impact any of their Wilton responsibilities.
The Wilton Y Board of Directors views this as an exceptional opportunity for us to take our leadership talents and come alongside a neighboring YMCA to help them deliver needed services to their community during this time of transition.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Thank you for all the support you give our Y throughout the year.
